Great Expectations
Advent is here! I decided that this year I am going to spend the Advent Season blogging about expectations. Since I usually have a lot of them, I thought it would be good to explore what the Bible says about expectations - particularly regarding the advent of Christ.
I am anticipating it to be an interesting journey.... yes, I guess I do have some great expectations! To start let me invite you to reflect on the words of my most-beloved Advent hyms.
Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
Charles Wesley
1. Come, thou long expected Jesus,
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.
Israel's strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth thou art;
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.
2. Born thy people to deliver,
born a child and yet a King,
born to reign in us forever,
now thy gracious kingdom bring.
By thine own eternal spirit
rule in all our hearts alone;
by thine all sufficient merit,
raise us to thy glorious throne.
