God is My Strength
Sometimes when I read the Bible, I find a passage that I don't remember ever reading before, even though I know I have. That's what happened to me this week. Here it is:
"But I will sing of your strength;
I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning.
For you have been to me a fortress
and a refuge in the day of my distress.
O my Strength, I will sing praises to you,
for you, O God, are my fortress,
the God who shows me steadfast love."
Psalm 59:16-17 (ESV)
The phrase "O my Strength" stood out to me. What does it mean that God is my strength?
When I am weak, He is strong.
When I cannot stand, He holds me up.
When I am in danger, He is my safety.
When I have nothing to give, He gives through me.
When I want to give up, He sustains me.
When I "just can't", He can.
God is my Strength, my Fortress and Strong Tower. He is my Deliverer and Defender. The Lord gives me power to love and obey Him. He gives me strength to face the day.
A song I had on a tape in the 90's (yes, way back then) comes to mind.
"And everyday I look to you
To be the strength of my life
You're the hope I hold onto
Be the strength of my life."
So, whatever is going on in your life as you read this, know that God is with you, He loves you, and He is your strength.
"O my Strength, thank You for Your steadfast love and power to save. Help me today. Defeat my enemies, forgive my sin, and fill me with Your Spirit. Protect me and provide what I really need. I praise You and put my trust in You. In Jesus' name, Amen."
