Joseph's Blessing

I was rereading the section of Genesis that we looked at earlier this week and realized that Joseph's blessing is amazing.  I think that after all we have read about him and all we have seen him go through, it is appropriate to take note of his father's blessing upon him.  Thus we have an extra post this week!

Genesis 49:22-26
22 “Joseph is a fruitful vine,
a fruitful vine near a spring,
whose branches climb over a wall.
23 With bitterness archers attacked him;
they shot at him with hostility.
24 But his bow remained steady,
his strong arms stayed limber,
because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob,
because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,
25 because of your father’s God, who helps you,
because of the Almighty, who blesses you
with blessings of the skies above,
blessings of the deep springs below,
blessings of the breast and womb.
26 Your father’s blessings are greater
than the blessings of the ancient mountains,
than the bounty of the age-old hills.
Let all these rest on the head of Joseph,
on the brow of the prince among his brothers."

When Joseph was sold into Egypt, he didn't know if he would ever hear his father's voice again.  But then he finds out he is still alive and eventually is reunited with him!  Now, he hears his father bless him!!  In the blessing Joseph receives, it is clear why he was able to remain so strong in the land of his slavery - because of God.  The Almighty has blessed Joseph tremendously and will continue to.  Jacob bestows all of his own blessing on Joseph's head.  What a contrast to being put in a pit, falsely accused of assault, and forgotten in prison!

The story of Joseph encourages us to put our hope and trust in "the Mighty One of Jacob... the Shepher, the Rock of Israel... the Almighty" and to receive the blessings He gives to us.  The words used to describe Joseph are that "his bow remained steady, his strong arms stayed limber."  The Lord can help us stay calm and ready for obedience in the various situations we face.  We can be protected as well as hold strongly and use well our weapons of spiritual warfare as we abide in Him (see Eph. 6:10-18).

The LORD bless you!
Tracy
